Quileute Nation

... to plemię, a właściwie to, co z niego zostało; plemię zamieszkujące La Push i okolice.
Mieliśmy wyjątkowe szczęście, że akurat podczas naszych 6 dni w La Push odbywało się comiesięczne spotkanie lokalnej społeczności, jak się okazało z przesłaniem zapobiegania alkoholizmowi i przemocy w rodzinie, będącymi dwoma ogromnymi problemami w wielu rezerwatach indiańskich w Stanach.

W La Push ekipa grała na bębnach i śpiewała tak, że ciarki szły po plecach!

The Quileute Nation is one of the Native-American tribes, that comes originally from the La Push area. We were lucky that during our six day stay there was a meeting of this local indigenous community looking at the problem of alcohol and drug addiction that is so prevalent in many reservations in the States.

The drum band played and sang so powerfully that I had electricity going down and up my spine!

... i kilka słów od 'starszyzny' plemiennej (z własnego doświadczenia), dlaczego jest tak bardzo lepiej grać na bębnach i podtrzymować tradycje plemienne, niż pić, czy brać narkotyki. A podtrzymywanie tradycji to między innymi wyprawa czółnami po morzu śladami polowań na wieloryby.. zamarzyło mi się dołączenie do takiej przygody:-)

... and words from the tribe elders why it is so much better to play drums and follow tribal traditions than drink or take drugs. One of the traditions is following the ancestors' trails of whale hunting.. I would love to do it with Quileute people:-)

To spotkanie było jak słońce na szarym niebie, szarym jak indiańskie La Push następnego dnia we mgle... Obraz nieco inny niż piękne zachody słońca nad klifami i plażami. Dobrze, że wioska i plaże, widoki, zachody są tak blisko siebie:-)

This meeting seemingly cast a ray of sunlight on our gray surrounding, both the sometimes grimly gray village of La Push and the hazy weather that enveloped us.

A bit different set of pictures here than those of beautiful sun over the cliffs and beaches. It is somehow good that the village lies so near onto these beaches, sunsets and views. The village is at times so grim that without this setting there could be so little to enjoy here:-)
